Latest Anglican News Volume 1, Number 1, 25 July 2007 The three word title above will be on the masthead of a weekly offering, which will henceforth appear each Wednesday on the CHC website (www.holycommuniondalls.org). Bishop Sutton has asked me to write a short news summary to keep the members and friends of our Parish apprised of the avalanche of news expected to flow from the turmoil in the Anglican Communion over the next few months from around the world, and especially from the U.S. In this initial issue, some organizations need to be described: Common Cause Partners - Since its formation in 2004, Anglican bodies connected to each other through Common Cause have committed to working together for "a Biblical, missionary and united Anglicanism in North America." Together, they have crafted a common theological statement and articles of federation. Both documents are in the process of being adopted by each Common Cause Partner. The organizations presently involved in the Common Cause Partners are the:
And two non-jurisdictional members:
Theses organizations include almost 250,000 traditional Anglican members. PECUSA, now TEC - The Protestant Episcopal Church in the USA, officially renamed The Episcopal Church is the church brought to the American colonies in its earliest days by settlers from Great Britain. From a maximum of over 3 million parishioners at the beginning of the decade of the 1960s, it now has fewer than 800,000 people in regular Sunday attendance. Many believe it has "walked apart" from the scriptures and the "faith once delivered", as still practiced by the majority of the 77+million member Anglican Communion, and by the REC. REC - A national jurisdiction in the Anglican tradition, formed in 1873, firmly upholding the authority of Holy Scripture, the traditional Book of Common Prayer (1662/1928) and the 39 Articles of Religion, to which all of its bishops and clergy subscribe, confessing Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. The REC is in intercommunion with the Anglican Province of America and the Anglican Church of Nigeria. CHC been a member of the REC since 2002. In next weeks edition we will preview some key upcoming meetings.
