Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and his praise in the assembly of the saints. -Psalm 149:1 At Church of the Holy Communion, we are committed to making a “joyful noise unto the Lord.” Hence, song is frequently interspersed throughout our entire service of worship. Our goal in the music ministry is to lead the congregation into the song of the faith, bringing the Lord an offering of praise which both beautiful and true. Our adult choir, directed by This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , provides leadership in this singing by supporting the congregation. An all-volunteer, non-auditioned group, our choir supports one of the Sunday morning services each week by singing hymns, choral anthems, psalms, and service music. The choir rehearses each Wednesday night at 7:00. We welcome anyone who wishes to sing to come and join us. If you have musical talent—either vocal or instrumental—which you would like to offer to the Lord in worship, please contact one of our music ministers. We seek to bring the best of the Christian tradition (and particularly of our Anglican heritage) in our musical offerings, so our worship music tends to emphasize great church composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, William Byrd, William Boyce, George Frederic Handel, etc. But we also take the mandate to “sing a new song” at face value, and consequently our services include a great deal of newly written music. Because music is a part of our Christian heritage which we must pass on to our children, a part of our Sunday school program at Church of the Holy Communion is devoted to sacred music. The children in the 3rd through 8th grades participate in a sacred music program (under the direction of This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) where they learn to sing the faith through musical settings of the Lord’s Prayer, the psalms, the canticles of Mary, Simeon, and Moses, as well as great hymns of the ages. Supporting all of this music-making requires a great organ, and at Holy Communion we are blessed to have a versatile Garland pipe organ which is capable of sustaining both congregational worship and the organ repertoire of the concert hall. See our organ page for further details. |
