SUNDAYS AT 10:15 AM until 11:05 AM PRE-SCHOOL -- ELEMENTARY Preschool through Kindergarten 1st-3rd grade. 4th-5th grades. This year, we purchased a curriculum that was put together by Fr. Walter Banek and his wife Nelda from Good Shepherd (REC) in Tyler called Alfred Rex Bible Curriculum for Children. JUNIOR BIGFISH (BELIEVERS IN GOD FAITHFUL IN SERVING HIM) 6th-8th grades. Junior BIGFISH is using Alfred Rex Bible Curriculum for Children. SENIOR BIGFISH 9th-12 grades. Sr. BIGFISH is using N.T. Wright's Romans Bible Study for Everyone. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105) The verse of scripture that has guided our Sunday school program over the past few years has been Ps. 119:105. We do believe scripture illuminates our path of life leading us to live lives that are modeled after Christ for the glory of God. This is why scripture knowledge and scripture memory is so important. It is our goal as a Sunday school program to teach our children the Holy Scriptures from the earliest age. We believe that this is best accomplished by focusing on the stories of the bible and making scripture memory an important part of their training. This year, we purchased a curriculum that was put together by Fr. Walter Banek and his wife Nelda from Good Shepherd (REC) in Tyler that does exactly that. We also think it appropriate to put together a rewards program that will help to encourage our kids in this spiritual training. Our Sunday school teachers have forms that they will use to take attendance for the year as well as record all the memory work that each child completes. A child will receive a sticker for attendance and a sticker for each memory verse that he/she completes. For example, a child attends 4 Sunday school classes and memorizes 3 passages then they will choose a prize. They attend 5 more Sunday school classes and memorize 2 more verses and they will get another prize. At the end of the year, we will give larger prizes to those students who fulfill the following: Pre-K – 3rd Grade would need a total of at least 35 stickers at the end of the year to receive a large prize. 4th – 12th Grade would need a total of at least 40 stickers at the end of the year to receive a large prize. There are 26 weeks of Sunday school and 30 memory verses per class. Therefore a total of 56 stickers are available for each child. We would like you to stop by their Sunday school class to receive a set of memory verses (3 pages) that go with their lessons. (Note, Pre-K will be coloring pages). I hope that you will make it a priority this year to go over their Sunday school lessons and help them to memorize scripture. Without your help, it will be difficult for them to reach our/their goal. This program will last throughout the year from September 2011- May 2012 when the final rewards will be given. Also Beginning This Year: Sacred Music We are adding a new aspect to our children’s Sunday school program. This new aspect will be Sacred Music taught by Chris Hoyt. Chris will be teaching children 4th -8th grade the hymns and songs of the church. This is very important because music has an ability to form our beliefs sometimes more so than what we learn in class. These hymns and songs will help our children to continue to learn about our faith in a whole new way that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Chris will meet with the children (4th-8th grade) in the clergy office for Sacred Music from 10:15-10:35. Then the children will go to their assigned Sunday school class for their scripture studies until 11:05. All parents please be sure to pick your children up from Sunday School by 11:05 so that the teachers are able to make it to the 11:15 service.
