First Sunday After Trinity

Jun 7, 2026    The Rt. Rev Dr. Charles Camlin

Trinity season teaches Christians to respond to God's redeeming love with active love for others.

This homily reflects on 1 John 4 and the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. It highlights St. John's declaration that “God is love” and shows how the Father sends the Son, the Son gives Himself for our salvation, and the Holy Spirit dwells within believers. The homily emphasizes a central Prayer Book theme: God's grace comes before our duty. Because God first loved us, Christians must love both God and their neighbors. The Rich Man failed this test by ignoring Lazarus at his gate. The message calls believers to recognize the needs of those around them and become channels of God's love in daily life. Scripture: 1 John 4:7 to 21; Luke 16:19 to 31.
