The First Sunday after Epiphany
This homily teaches that Epiphany begins with the mind. St Augustine said that a Christian should live as an allelujah from head to foot, and the head comes first. Luke shows this truth through the young Jesus in the temple where He learned and taught the Scriptures. His wisdom astonished the teachers and revealed His humanity and His divinity. Jesus drew Mary and Joseph into His mission and showed that His true home stood in His Father’s house. Paul echoes this theme in Romans by calling Christians to renew their minds rather than follow the world. Scripture teaches that thought shapes life and behavior. True transformation begins in worship where believers offer themselves to God as living sacrifices. Epiphany calls the Church to unite Scripture worship and sacrament so that Christ renews the mind and transforms the whole person.
