The Eleventh Sunday After Trinity

Aug 31, 2025    The Rt. Rev Dr. Charles Camlin

This homily reminds us of the deep difference between pride and humility in our walk with Christ. Like the Pharisee, we can be tempted to trust in our own good works, but God calls us instead to the humility of the tax collector who simply prays, “Lord, have mercy.” St. Paul’s life shows us this same transformation—once proud and self-reliant, he came to rest only in the grace of Christ. We too are encouraged to take comfort in God’s mercy, to serve Him with joy, and to remember that our true hope is not in what we do, but in the promise that our names are written in heaven.
