The Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity
What kind of man would abandon his family, faith, and community just to make money? In the eyes of the world, such a person might seem hopeless — yet this is exactly the kind of man Jesus called to follow Him.
In this homily, we reflect on the remarkable transformation of St. Matthew, a despised tax collector who left everything behind when Jesus said, “Follow Me.” Once consumed by greed and worldly gain, Matthew became one of the Twelve Apostles, a Gospel writer, and a martyr for the faith.
Through Matthew’s story, we see how Christ the Great Physician heals not only broken bodies but also disordered souls — turning sinners into saints. The same call that reached Matthew still echoes to us today: to forsake our covetous desires, reorder our priorities, and follow Jesus above all else.
